Happy 65th Independence Day. I wonder how and what it means to an individual and to be more precise to a working professional...
What does freedom mean to an Indian employee? The freedom to exercise the ‘open door’ policy and tell your boss that his business strategy is flawed? The freedom to enjoy an extended ‘paternity’ leave? The freedom to decide your own KRA? The freedom to take a sabbatical to pursue adventure sports and travel? Freedom means different things to different people or in this case, employees. “Freedom at the workplace is the independence employees need in order to be motivated and perform to the best of their abilities. Freedom encompasses flexibility on where an employee chooses to work from, the opportunity to voice their opinions freely and the freedom to exercise their creativity to achieve organizational goals. When people have freedom at work, they ought to give their best. They become emotionally committed to the organization, as opposed to being merely rationally committed. Emotionally committed employees go the extra mile in any assignment, actively seek new challenges and remain engaged with the organization through good times and bad.
