Me and My Grandpa!!

It was my summer vacation and I had gone to my Grandpa's Home. (Our paternal home)
It is a big farm house kind of place where we have our own farmland, Mango gardens which use to have its own smell of mango, tamarind plants with lots of tamarind fallen besides each tree, and then there were trees of berries and all. And fields have crops like rice wheat and pulses. It had been a day and suddenly next day early in the morning I saw my grandpa was suggesting each and everyone like me (cousins and other relatives) of what work they have to do. Some have to ranch the cattle and let them graze, some had to clean the front area of farmhouse by removing all small and big stones, then clean it using home made broom.
So the basic agenda of my grandpa used to be that no one should sit at home without any work.It was like one has to work in their own home to earn the bread. I can still remember the pure and fresh air and I was taking the calf with me to graze and it was my first time. I was kinda loving it till the time calf jumped on my feet and injured my feet with its hoof. Blood spurted out from my legs. And i was further free of all work but after getting a scolding that I can't even do a small piece of work. Even after being injured I was kind of happy being relieved of all work. And then suddenly my grandpa saw me sitting idle and he came and started asking me about my studies and how are they going. To his expectation I passed all his small tests that he took in English, Maths and Science. But then came the Sanskrit where he was master and I had learnt little bit whatever I read in school. And then he made me do lot of exercises in Sanskrit without even asking whether it was applicable to my grade of boy or not. He had made me learnt many verses, shlokas and mantras. Soon he had made me learnt lot of grammar just by spotting my mistake. I was unaware of these things as I had never read them in school. But after so many scoldings and beatings he had made me learn the basics and learn it very strongly. Things like Roops and all that I used to mug up , suddenly came to me naturally. I could just say roop of any word merely after knowing its name. Nothing else was required. And when I was back in my school, I saw that I was so strong in Sanskrit that I was able to complete whole book in one go including the grammar one. I can talk to teacher in sanskrit and soon school people started thinking me as a prodigy in Sanskrit which according to my grandpa was too bad. :)
Next I can remember my grandpa taking me to the rice field of ours where the rice was just being sown and field being leveled. It had rained and the water in the field was reaching till my feet. Even then he gave me the seeds and asked to sow them in a straight query, next level them properly. And next he has asked me to plough some land, axe down some logs and what not.
He was renowned for his mastery in all kind of pujas and almanc related predictions in nearby towns and villages. People from distant area used to come to him for seeking his advice on some or the other things.
So there are many memories of mine which were associated with him. And few week back he passed away. I was very lucky enough to meet him just before his demise. He had lost his speaking capability partially and was suffering from dementia. Even then he recognized me and wanted to ask me many things and tell lot of things...
May his soul rest in peace.

Monsoon blues

Those rainy days
To each other we gaze

And that old rusty scooty
Where we used to keep our booty

And those narrow broken roads
Our trips between beach and our abodes

Beautiful moments of worth dollar million
And we swap being rider and a pillion

Sometimes driving fast and sometime so slow
Singing like cuckoo, sometimes shouting like crow

And all the time we had each other's holding
And many a times used to get your scolding
Where else but Goa

Your getting plum and peach
On exploring every new beach

Where are those beautiful days
With time one surely pays
Goan Monsoon

Karwa Chauth Moon

Wiping and Sweeping
In stranger's home,
Giving fee for children,
Making Roti Chapati,
In someone else's kitchen
To make her own kitchen run
Listening to cheap abuses
Of the alcoholic husband
Assaulted physically
By gambler husband
Got raped each night
Still,
She keeps Karwa Chauth Fast

Wish....

The moon had been women
Then
In the dark life of theirs
There had been little light

Happy Dussera and Navmi

Its the high time, Its the season of festivity and celebration. The ambience around me is all glittering with all boys and girls dressed in traditional dresses, ready for dandiya and dance along with pooja. And here I am not feeling good for anything. My friend if you are reading this, trust me I still have same feelings for you as it was earlier. And my over involvement in my academics doesn't means I don't care about you. Please understand the situation and even if there is some thing wrong from my side, can't you pardon me for that. Can't you use other ways... after all doing mistake is natural human tendency.

I just want to wish you Happy Navami and Dusshehra To you. I am sure you must be at your home and family to enjoy the same but like me, even you will not be happy.
Missing you.!!

Embarrassments and Professionalism

There have been many moments in my life where I felt embarrassed and awkward. Rather its a part of everyone's life. I am very sure each and everyone must have their own moment of embarrassment. Today while discussing with one of my friend I just remembered one such odd moment. This event that I am going to recall is of my school time when I was a medical aspirant and wanted to be a doctor.I was in 12th class. I was very enthusiast in reading biology and human body to be very precise.
We were given some project work to be done and that too in a way that can be presented in an upcoming medical seminar and create awareness among people as well. I thought of many things, referred books and all but could not get any nice idea. Being maverick I always wanted to do something different.I finally thought to approach some doctor and seek advice regarding the same as they can suggest some nice ideas in a very practical manner. So here was I in our community hospital. But to my amaze I saw there was huge line of patients in front of each doctors. I was not even allowed to be in line without having appointment letter kind of thing. Suddenly I saw there was this doc who was free and I saw it as an opportunity.
As soon as I wanted to enter that Lady Doc's cabin, a bench staff woman at the door stopped me and said that boy you can not go there. She is ladies specialist. I said she is Gynecologist and I know that. but then I am not going for medication, it was for school project. she allowed me. As I was entering many boys , girls and people around were staring at me as if I am entering into something very wrong place. It was the first moment of awkwardness. Anyways I went ahead and met the doc and told her about project work. And as soon as we were done, she suddenly took a pen and on a piece of paper draw two semi circles and a dot almost at lower portion of each. Like you people who are reading the post, I also got it what it was. But as soon as she was done with the drawing I was in this super controlled stage of mine where I was just somehow managing to not to show my teeth and laughing face to her. And she suddenly said "Why don't you create awareness about Breast Cancer." Though she was professional and for her it was normal. Even to me it  is normal at this part of life, But at that time being a school boy, I was scandalized to see such picture being drawn in front of mine by some woman. She was then explaining the whole process of cancer check and detection and it became more difficult for me to control my self and finally i puked out all laughter in front of her. She got furious and asked what is wrong. I told her it would be too difficult for me to explain all this to my teachers and woman who will come in to the seminar. And even they will not like a male person to explain this to them. She got my point and said that I should go ahead with this, and nobody will point anything or will feel awkward if you are confident in explaining them. I was in deep thought if I can do this and after a long thought I gave up and asked something else for the project. It was at the same time bit embarrassing for me when she was explaining the details of the body part. I was suddenly sweating even in the AC. And people from outside can see me bit uncomfortable and were continuously watching me. The whole ambiance was like "run away from here as soon as possible". And I did that finally. But that moment was really too embarrassing for me to share with even anyone at that time. Hope you people will understand with what I was going through.
And yeah regarding project, obviously I didn't go with it , instead had something related to Cardiology.

Meghdootam and Cloud Technology

Meghadūta is an epic poem written by Kālidāsa,the Shakespeare of India, considered to be one of the greatest Sanskrit poets. The basic theme of his this creation was the solitude of the protagonist Yaksha who used Clouds as his messenger to show his love and affection to his wife while being in exile. As the monsoon cloud makes it way, to satiate the scorched earth, many lovelorn heart long to be with their beloved! Yaksha, who was a servant of the God of Wealth, Kuber, had allowed God Indra’s elephant to invade Kuber’s garden. Thus he was exiled away in the solitude of Mount Ramgiri as a punishment. Eight months had already passed when the south-west monsoon had begun its northward journey. Yaksha could hardly bear this separation from his beloved wife any longer. He thus invokes the cloud to be his messenger to her and thus begins the lyric which when translated goes as:

Comes the rain-bearing cloud,
A lovelorn lover calls out loud,
From Ramgiri to Alaka, to go
To his lovelorn beloved, lo!
To carry his love message
In exile, his only assuage!
Which way do the clouds go?
That too the poet shows!
Crossing vales and over mountains
With peacocks and flowing fountains.
A description, vivid and imaginative
Fabulous, fantastic and fascinating!!

So it talks of sending messages via cloud and further in his romantic poem he mentioned about sending pictures and compositions via clouds. Now to some it may seem like total literary and metaphor piece of work where its just an imagination of poet. I mean yeah... who can sent pictures and voice using cloud as a messenger  that too at that time when there were few technological advancement. But I view it from the different scientific angle and believe that it was not an imagination but merely a truth. We were so advance at one time that what scientists are inventing and doing research was part of Indian culture. Let it be flying plane, weapons and others. I can relate this much talked about Cloud Technology of these days to Meghduta. What is Cloud technology or computing.... nothing but data and operations to be performed at a server which is not local but at some common place which is always accessible via internet. Our mails, stored pics at some site etc. are result of cloud technology only. So cant we believe the same internet kind of technology at that time. Yeah....It might can be the surrender of our mind to an omniscient, omnipotent Viswa Chaitanya, a Universal Consciousness that the great scientists or rishis dreamed of as an analogy to internet. And might be the cloud has been given a metaphor as a messenger so as to fit exactly for a romantic poem , or who knows there was some technology where they might had really extracted some connection via real physical clouds only. Why a cloud?Because it is in the air, is pure and ethereal, and let us admit, somewhat virtual. Whatever the scene be it might was as simple for them as for us sending mms and sms.So none literary inspiration is baseless, at least I don't think in this case.
