Overstyle faux pas

Sometimes in over-style we go on doing mistakes and instead of mending them continue to repeat them.It happens with everybody and here I am going to share a funny incident that happened with me.
It was my chemistry lab in my 2nd semesters. Our chemistry teacher was busy in staring girls after telling us what to do in experiment. Our lab assistant Mr. Rajkumar has provided us the chemicals which we need to test or do something(i don't remember) with test tubes. There were around 30 students in my batch of class. We were made to stand either side of the lab desk where all apparatus for experiment were kept.
Before writing any further one information shared, we had fine on breaking any instruments and apparatus  right from Rs50 to some upper limit.Whenever there was any sound of broken glass he used to run with the register to note down the name of the student along with fine amount.
I was standing in between a row of a side. I was trying to be over-smart and was just playing with the test-tubes. Actually i took a test tube and the initial step was to clean it using brush. I just inserted brush in my own unique style in test tube and was keeping a watch on other guys to check if somebody is watching me doing it and I can show him/her my style stunt of cleaning test-tube in unique way. I don't know the brush was tapered or my hands got SUNNY DEOL power or the test tube was of bad quality(which I am sure because I know how my college management was.), a stroke of brush just  pierced the test-tube and gosh it was broken. I cleverly put it back at the test tube stand (so that assistant couldn't notice) and took another , but again instead of taking it normally I just popped it up from my one hand to catch from another which again was one of my style stunt which failed again as in my attempt to catch from other hand it just slipped and broke. Gosh one more!! And failure of style too along with an insult feeling as everyone was laughing at me.But somehow i manged to not come in the eyes of assistant and collected the broken pieces very well in a paper torn from my friends copy.
So here came the third time where i was very cautious about using the test tube but this time I saw Rajkumar coming , I thought he saw me with other two and will fine me , in this thought suddenly the third test tube too slipped from my hand and made a sound... and I felt Oh Gosh... not again third time but it was already broken. And I was sure now I had have to pay for it. But suddenly somebody else's test-tube too got broken which made a big noise and the assistant ran toward him for the fine with register. With the little time I got, I collected the broken pieces again and thrown all of them in dustbin and fourth time I carefully took another test-tube without any style or flamboyance. While I was working on it , assistant came to me and checked. He saw me working with test-tubes which were all fine and hadn't asked anything and I was saved from fine. But I was feeling like it was not my day today as no style, no tricks are working and I just made fool of myself in front of others. Although lucky enough that I was not fined. Three test tubes broken in just a minute just by my over-style deceived me.A kind of faux pas to me. Afterward I never tried any kind of style tricks in chemistry lab at least.
Moral: If really need to be in over-style , be cautious or practice well before actually giving public display or you will be a fool out of yourself only, like me.

Charged for Charging

We had entered the second decade of new millennium.India is shining everywhere and leading to a path of developed country. And Mumbai is one of the modern city of India , even though sometimes we encounter something which make us know we have still long way to go.
I was going to one of my friend's party who happens to live at a place which comes after going through a long and alone jungle area. Population is less and people are not seen after 7 PM. There are very less shops on road.He chose that place to live as even the posh and best 2 BHK apartments are very cheap over there but there is no such social area. These builders just for the sake of money create housings wherever they get the free land. Let it be inside a jungle. Anyways my friend after marriage chose that place to live so as to show her wife how grand he is. In a way he shown his cleverness as with the amount in which he could not afford even 1 BHK in Mumbai main areas he got two BHK that too furnished.
Anyways I along with my friend were going to his home first time as he invited us to meet his wife on dinner. For free dinner we are always ready that too if made by some lady(here it was our new bhabhiji who would surely had put all her effort to make the dinner as tasty as it could be , i thought). And as always i was late, and it was around 8 pm and we entered the jungle on my friends bike, it was really scary. Means nobody was on road and and there were one or two street lights at very long distance. Most of the parts were dim. We were unable to locate his house and after making many rounds and circles we find it best to call my friend and ask him only. My friend don't carry mobile, strange na!! Even i was aghast when i came to know this initially. But he himself is a strange person , couldn't help. I called from my phone and as the call received by my friend a low battery tune came to my ears.. my friend just said "Where are you people , we are waiting.." it get discharged :(
Now what to do? We again started making a ride on bike in the hope someone if found on the way will tell us the way. After much time we saw an old man going.. we just reach to him and asked if he could help us.. he just told there is shop after going inside a narrow road, rest he don't know anything. We reached to the shop as told by old man.We followed the narrow road and the end of road was his shop's address actually. It was small roadside panwala kind of wooden box shop having some cigarettes, biscuits, toffees and some other things. I wondered why he opened shop over there instead of roadside. I asked the address if he can tell, but again he was of no help. But luckily i saw a board over there on which it was written Mobile are
charged here. It was like a thirsty person just got well in a barren island. I just asked if he can charge my mobile. He smiled and pick out 10 wires and said insert whatever pin type of your mobile into your phone. While charging my mobile i asked him why the shop is so inside , he said because police don't allow us to sell addictive openly.. I was dumbfound. I thought of leaving that place as soon as possible. But needed to be there for at least 5 more minutes for getting my mobile get charged enough to talk. My friend asked what else social service he do apart from charging? He said he charge for charging mobiles. Its not social service. and people from nearby village come to him for getting their mobile charged. As the nearby region do not get proper electricity. I couldn't believe. Its just 20 min ride I came from light clad mumbai area to a place in mumbai only where there is no proper electricity. Anyways i thought for leaving that place and call my friend. It has been around seven minutes since i started charging my mobile. I asked man the charge for it and took out my wallet. He said 50 Rs!!
How come 50 ???  We started shouting on him. He just lit his torch and beside his banner of "Mobile are Charged here" shown the rates shown in small letters 25 rs per 5 min. I said i had done for 7 min only and I will pay 25 only. He said even a second after 5 min cost you 25 more. I wondered "What was this??". We argue with him for around 10 Min's and getting late as well. My friend suddenly out of frustration took out 50 rs and said "take it and be happy." I felt cheated. I said now i will charge for extra 3 Min's that too while talking and utilise the money. If we paid fully we will utilise it totally. The man said yes sure , go on who stopped you. Saying this he left the shop and gone for doing toilet and asked us to call him if somebody ask him. The shop was all open. I was feeling to steal something from his shop and equate the matter. But it was too risky , all local branded biscuits were there and he openly said it was the shop where even police come to have drugs.I better left this idea and place as well when he returns.. called my friend and asked the way to reach his home..

My Handovers!!!

As and when i was about to quit my last job a lot of handover was expected from my side. Ooh don't think anything related to work.. I had almost done all my part of work before leaving , no body can blame me on that part. But here are some unique and interesting handovers that i had given to some chosen and deserving ones.

Handover of my eye candy: We in our group had chosen a specific lady from our office who served as our eye candy. And like in most of the case the best and hottest thing always remain in some other team, we had no much interaction with them but we cant help staring them.Everybody had chosen their own specific one and so had I. And there were some rules like one will never take even a glance of others so called item and even if he looks then treat her like "Bhabhi". A single lady cant be shared between two , one has to compromise in case of clash. So final day i had just handed over my eye candy to the person who was compromising since long as our choice clashed and he being a junior to me had no choice but to compromise. He must had been very happy at my last day, but was showing himself as very sad.

Handover of my position in my "Group meeting":  For distressing ourselves and even at free times our group use to have a special Sofa Coffee Meeting (SCM) where we with tea and coffee used to discuss many things while sitting on office couch. The topic varies from very comic to political to serious to emotional even sometimes. We all had some special place of sitting and specific role in meeting. Last day i handed over my position to someone who was lasting since long to join our group.

Handover of my Workplace: As i was leaving many people in my team requested PM for taking my workplace as it was the best seat for anybody who want to do many more things side by side with the work Let it be playing some game or Facebook,Gmail, or whatever. Also the view from my seat was also nice. Hope you people understand what i mean to say by view...

Room No 101

After describing significance of no 50 its time for 101. The very first day in my college hostel i was told that i have to live in Room No 101, that was the very first one. Being the very first room it has its own advantages and disadvantages. Advantages were less but disadvantages were much more. And it had its own specialities too. Lets discuss one by one…

Advantages:

Since it was the first room and at ground floor ,  no need to climb upstairs and distance to college was minimum w.r.t any other room.

It was next to bathroom  so it had some cooling effect coming from the common wall. Smile Amazing but true…

Any news if needed to be conveyed to hostellers we were the first one to get it.

Disadvantages:

Being the first room, we get much disturbed by any visitors. Time again people knocked our door asking about any thing and for anybody..

Right from seniors to our classmates used to make frequent visit to our rooms for taking rest, combing hair , putting creams and powder , using our soaps for washing hands after  potty session(which i found worst thing , so we had put aside a soap for visitors separately).

Also it was a perfect place for them while making a bunk as most of the times they find our room open during our college hours as we (me and my room partners ) were frequent bunkers.

All in all we had no privacy left with us. Even girls who used to come over for making a PCO call were able to see the gallery space in front of our door as it was very close and peek able from PCO.(Although don’t know its advantage or disadvantage Smile)

The cooling sensation advantage had disadvantage when access water logging made the whitewash of wall to left and drop on floor in bits and pieces.

Speciality:

Ours was the only room having same set of pillow and bed sheet , i had personally checked each and every room , no other room had all room mates with same sets.

Ours was the tech savvy room , where one could found most of the usable gadgets (for hostellers) of that time right from 2 Walkman , mobile, one audio system (with lots of audio cassettes and CV ), a radio multiple earphones then later a laptop, pen drive (both first one in hostel) ,mp3player, handycam.

We always had some or the other food item there to feed our stomach and other hostellers too used to take benefit of it which sometimes had been the cause of fight and argue also.

And best part is we again had all super quality books for our course material but never studied any time. There was always an absence of study ambience in our room except two days before exams. We had many novels too for reading anyways..

Ours was medical room for hostellers too , most of the medicine too were available to us and also we were given the first aid box for hostellers.

P.S.: As mentioned earlier my university roll no was 0401010101 because 101 was the roll no assigned to me , rest 0401010 is college and course code. So 101 is really special to me.

Roll No “Pachas” (Fifty)

While I  entered in my engineering graduations , the very first year I was part of Computer Science student’s section comprising of around 60 students and I was the one with Roll No 50. Well this is a kind of a specific figure which get easily in to mind of everybody that this guy is Roll No 50. But this was common as it was evitable. But special thing come into picture when it was made much special by my own style. And before writing anything more i need to tell something , “what everything i do , which others consider as style or show off is actually natural to me. Couldn’t help.”

I was going outside the class and my Class Representative asked my roll no so that he can make proxy , i just turned and raised my five fingers and said Roll No PACHAASsss…, along with that boy , people over there also noticed it sharply. From then many of them started calling me Roll no 50 boy or “wo roll no 50 wala ladka” specially by those who don't knew my name but used to discuss about me and my style. But i continued my this style with other students, lab assistants and even with teachers. They must had thought what a “Nautanki” he is but sorry its my way of saying things and style. Even in one of my Professional Communication class I was made to speak on why mostly I am called as Roll No 50 boy. One of my classmate suggested me using the word half century instead PAchaaas as later seems a bit old fashioned or cheap but i sticked to that only as I found her idea much boring and non-stylish.

Also it was quite useful while searching my name in the list of students. In all my notebooks and assignments I used to proudly write Roll No “50”. Although this was not attached to me long and as soon as i entered in 2nd semesters , it was all detached from me and i missed it too as this no. had given me a kind of identity and a new style to show off …as people say!!

P.S. : My university roll no. was too stylish by being 0401010101

Spit and Spoil

Although i am perfect in all sense ;) but i have an aberration that doesn't effect me much, but others do get effected by it. And that habit is "Spitting whole of fluid(say coldrink) to others when somebody make me laugh while i am drinking anything." I have many victims of this habit, right from my close friends to perfect strangers. Although i have full control on my laugh and i usually don't laugh much but there have been multiple cases now that i have to admit to myself that this is a kind of habit to me.
Apart from spitting to my roomies frequently (now they don't share any joke with me while i m drinking) , i remember three such prominent cases and one recently (which gave me the idea to write over this pathetic topic). Coincidentally all such happened in marriage parties... :)
I was in last year of my school then (12th std) , there was a marriage party and since whole bunch of my class were living in a single colony most of them were there. I was with my group of friends, of them there was one whom i don't know for what reasons others use to think as my rival or enemy etc (actually i know the reason but wont share here ). I was drinking coldrink and in a while someone burst some joke and i couldn't control my laughter.. it was just a chance that he was opposite to me and i spitted directly on to his face and over his newly bought leather jacket. Seeking it as an act of envy and revenge he ran after me ,but i just eloped from there. He chased me for some distance but returned back to clean himself first. I came an hour later and said sorry and made him understand that it was not at all intentional..i don't know he still believe it or not..
Second case is from my college when we hosteler when devoid of good food(better say even normal food) , gone to any extent to have some good food even on the cost of our self respect. We (me and my group of hostel friends) used to go some marriage party as a fake baratis(invitees). We use to indulge in the party , dance at DJ , have snap with couples getting married and finally eat, drink and enjoy a lot. In one such party i was drinking hot coffee (as twas winter season) and one of my friend just shared a joke and as usual i spurted out the fluid but this time my friend opposite to me was much active and anticipative. He was ready for this i guess so he just moved from his place and there was an auntie behind him , who became my next hunt. I asked sorry and cried much there but that lady scolded so much me that i thought of never drinking coffee again. Also situation became worst when they started asking our background seeking as relative so that they can make a complaint. Anyhow we just escaped from there somehow. All my friends were scolding me for my act and i was scolding to the one opposite to me who suddenly shown so much of activeness although used to be so sluggish that used to sleep all day in hostel... :)
And lastly the recent one. It was one of my college friends wedding and some of our college classmates were there.Among them was one who just came in pure white saree (cotton or silk don't know).. and had a misconception of looking very hot and beautiful. And every time used to say me "Sunil, i m feeling that everybody is looking at me only!!". Ha Ha...
Again there was  a coldrink session in party and one of my dear friend cracked a humour and i cannot resist my self but spitting on the bright white saree of hers..
And all her white saree get spoiled by cola colour patches..
Oh shit!! We all shouted.. She ran right from there towards the washroom to clean her saree as well as hand and some other part of body and i must say for some make up..
And i ran behind her in a feel of guilt to say sorry and as well as help her in mending and making things work again for her. I just tried to wash her saree with water splashes, then rising and drying it by draining the water out by all means.
It was her big  heart that she hadn't shouted much on me , forgave me (as i guess, might be abusing me in her mind) and again we were all enjoying the party....
I am trying to control this these days very much but be sure not to make me laugh while i am  gulping something!!!

From "Sunil" to "Pandey Ji"

While in childhood people use to call me with many names starting from sunil to chhotu to raju to many more i could not count even. But as soon as i reached to a level of maturity at teenage, while being in my school, "SUNIL" was the only predominant one.
All teachers , my friends, neighbors everybody used to call me by my auspicious name only. But dont know how, things started changing suddenly. I remember all my friends switched to "PANDEY" , instead of calling "SUNIL". Specially while abusing like "Sale Pandey itna late kyon ata hai?" , "Ye sala Pandey ka hi kiya hua hoga!!" . I don't know why such switch happens ,its a social mentality of men or what? Or its a tradition to call by surname. Anyways i had no qualms over being called "PANDEY". Notice I just talked of mentality of man only not of other better half. Calling here ladies as better is obvious as they continued to call me in a civilized manner by using my proper name "SUNIL" even in the case when they are about to dump, ditch or shout on me. :) At least for this thing i admire them, I accept. Ladies do maintain the dignity of everything around them including there language and tone. And regarding elders and teachers most of them were still used to call by Name only but there were some who cant resist their manly behavior and called me PANDEY,PANDIT,PADEY even. Then with time my proper surname was even twisted and experimented by boys many times in higher schooling and in college.
Some fine examples are PANDU, PANDA , Pandya , Pandit and many mores. While being in hostel i was famous as "PANDEY" only. One change I noticed then was with the ladies , some of them used to take my surname but again with some shade of dignity like Mr.Pandey or taking full name "Sunil Pandey".
Then it was a drastic change when i entered in Corporate world. Till now it was OK when people called me "Pandey" but now an additional 'JI' was added. "Pandey Ji" It seems like someone very old , uncle types is been called and even people older then me used to call me by same name. I felt respected when some juniors used to call me by that way but when anybody double of your age call you like this, you can either feel super much respected or feel very awkward and with me it was a mixed kind of feeling. Thanks to some of my collegaues who gave me some relaxation by calling me some of my other chosen pet name like "BABA" and all. Cases were like that all serving staff of my office even from pantry to watchman, used to say "Pandey ji" or Pandey. Even the Pan shop man everyday greeted me from far away shouting in front of everybody "Pandey ji Pranam" while i was visiting office every morning. Huhh!!
Anyways i hope in coming future i will (with my efforts) regain my Auspacious name "SUNIL" , when everybody know me by my name not by title.

P.S:- There is a serial on SAB TV "Office Office" which contributed much for the same. There is a character Pandey who enforce everybody to use "Ji"  after Pandey as a token of respect.. This character in this Serial also popularized this "Pandey" or better say "Pandey Ji" concept
